What to Wear When Working From Home
/This year marks three years of working full time from home. I wish that I could say that it has been smooth sailing but working from home comes with it’s own set of challenges. Some days you get everything checked off of your to-do list. While most days you stand to look at the clock wondering where did the time go.
When I first transitioned over to stay at home, it was a HUGE adjustment. I spent most of my days in leggings with my hair up in a bun. Making time to get dressed and put me together seemed like a pointless task. But, I realized something wearing leggings daily and not feeling my best, made it extremely difficult to focus on my goals and to-do list.
I noticed that there was a huge lack of motivation and confidence. Physically I wasn’t happy with my appearance and because of what I saw physically, it shaped my productivity levels and even made me feel less confident in building my business. It was then that I realized I had to take my OWN advice and put myself together. I had a “Girl, get yourself together” moment. I realized that just because I worked from home didn’t necessarily mean that I should wear my pajamas all day. There are so many stylish and comfortable pieces that I knew I could incorporate into my wardrobe to make my life and confidence much better.
So over the course of the last three years I’ve developed an outfit formula, and discovered my new personal style as wfh business owner.
REINVENTING PERSONAL STYLE
If you are new to working from home, or you have been in these work from home streets for a while, but you’re ready to fully commit to getting your style back on track. Then, there are some steps that you must take before the style & shopping comes.
Work From Home Goal: Feel confident & productive while crushing my business goals
Style Goal: Shop for more pieces that are easy to mix and match and provide comfort without sacrificing style.
Once you create your style goals you are going to want to assess your wardrobe and daily lifestyle routine.
SHOP FOR YOUR CORE PIECES
You may already have your core pieces on lock, so let this be a simple refresher to shop for those items that will essentially hold your wardrobe together. In this case, since we are speaking of “Work From Home” wear then your core pieces could very well be a comfy pair of joggers, stretchy trousers or co-ord set, etc. Your core pieces are the anchor of your wardrobe and can be worn with just about anything that you have. You should be able to dress these pieces up or down.
Here is a list of some of my favorite core pieces
WORK FROM HOME LEGGINGS & JOGGERS
Depending on your personal style, your statement pieces will look much different than someone else's. For me, my statement pieces are always my handbags and jackets. I love jackets with prints, faux fur jackets, and jackets with bright colors. When I work from home I love to wear cardigans with statement features such as bell sleeves, fringe fabric, etc.
WORK FROM HOME JUMPSUITS
Name something more comfortable than a jumpsuit…. you can’t right? Jumpsuits have an amazing way of making you feel dressed up, stylish and comfortable at the same time.
WORK FROM HOME BASIC TOPS
Having some basic tops to wear under blazers, cardigans and in the summer is a must in my book. Not only are these easy to pair with skirts, jeans and shorts for when you’re leaving the house, they’re also comfortable and stylish for when you’re working from home.
