TRAVEL GUIDE: Whitefish, Montana
/Travel Guide to Whitefish, Montana in the Fall
So you want to go to Whitefish, Montana? Well strap in because you’re in for a wild adventure! Last week we spent a week in Whitefish, Montana and it was hands down one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been. We ate delicious crepes, stayed in a cozy cabin and we even saw a bear! My only complaint is that we didn’t have more time.
Read on for what to do in Whitefish, Montana!
When we started telling friends about our trip to Whitefish, I was shocked by how many people had connections to the city. After spending 7 days in Montana, it became clear that this is a place you can’t help but visit year over year.
WHERE TO EAT IN WHITEFISH, MONTANA
My sister cooked most of our meals at our house, but we did eat out a decent amount. Here were a few of our favorite spots:
Jalisco Cantina: amazing Mexican food, I opted for their burrito of the day, The Jalisco cocktail and we ordered chips and guac for the table.
Buffalo Cafe: we ended up eating here twice during our stay and the food was amazing both times. We had the burger of the week, fish and chips, buffalo chicken sandwich, and ordering their on tap rootbeer is a MUST!
Amazing Crepes: let me tell you, they were amazing! We grabbed breakfast from here twice and the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese crepe was hands down my favorite.
BREWERIES
We booked a brewery tour with Big Sky Brews Cruise and since we had a party of 8 it ended up falling into their “private” party tour. Throughout the tour we visited: Bonsai Brewing Project, Sacred Waters and Tap House. The tour was four hours long, you try four beers at each stop and so much fun. If you’re able to create a custom tour, I can not recommend ending at Tap House enough. They have delicious beer options and the pizza (let’s be honest, you’ll want to eat pizza after your third brewery) is AMAZING. Make sure to grab a small chicken alfredo pizza to go.
WHAT TO DO
Most of our trip was spent at Glacier National Park (read the entire Glacier post here) but when we were not hiking around, we explored downtown Whitefish. There are so many amazing shops and things to do inside of the downtown.
Farmer’s Market: every Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m., from June 9 through September 29 you can find a farmer’s market in downtown Whitefish. Local farmers and craftsmen showcase their products at the North end of Central Avenue. Live music, prepared food, and the season's freshest products are featured. We were a little shocked to see the longest line at the market belonging to a watermelon stand. Do yourself a favor and wait out the line to purchase a yellow watermelon, it is one of the most delicious pieces of fruit you will ever eat!
Lakes: our cabin was located close to Whitefish Lake, which we found out has a beach! Even though it was too cold for us to enjoy the beach, it was one of the quietest and peaceful places in Whitefish.
WHERE TO STAY
We stayed in this VRBO for the week, it was the perfect size for eight people. Next year we’ll most likely stay somewhere on Whitefish Lake that’s closer to downtown and Glacier. Overall the house was nice, had plenty of room and a great porch.
We spoke with several locals who told us the best time to visit Whitefish is in June and July. While I have no doubt they are right, there is something special about driving through Montana as the leaves are changing and waking up to 50-degree crisp mornings.
